This Week in Our Schools 10/05 - 10/09

ELEMENTARY 4TH & 5TH GRADE TAG
4th and 5th grade Talented and Gifted students spent a day at the Administration Center learning how to write short stories from author Mike Graf. 
Over 80 Identified talented and gifted students from grades 4-8 had an opportunity to work with Mike Graf, an author in residence for the week.  While Mike was here, students learned about a process for writing realistic fiction, including character development and cliffhanger storylines.   Students wrote drafts of a four chapter story and will send their final drafts to Mike for a critique.

Mike is an author of a 12 book series of national park adventures called The Adventures with the Parkers series. This series has already received national attention, awards, and excellent reviews. (Return to Table of Contents)





ELEMENTARY 4TH & 5TH GRADE FAMILY MATH NIGHT
Thank you to all students, parents, teachers, and administrators that attended the MCSD 4th-5th Grade Family Math Night on October 5. Approximately 150 students and parents had a great time learning about math together. Congratulations to the Madison Mustangs for winning the traveling trophy for participation. Thanks to Oak Creek Engraving for providing the plaque and to the Muscatine Journal for publishing a story in the newspaper. We look forward to seeing you at next year's Family Math Night! COLORADO ELEMENTARY

Students in Mrs. Steele's class (and Mrs. Hagens--student teacher from St Ambrose) are working on life size models of the human digestive system. (Return to the Table of Contents)




WASHINGTON ELEMENTARY
High school ag students came in to teach students in Ms. Brennan's 1st grade class all about bees! They even got to try on the protective gear! (Table of Contents)


WEST MIDDLE SCHOOL

Students in Mrs. Matteson's Engllish/Language Arts class were learning to categorize themes and main ideas and learning how to determine the difference between the two.



In Mr. Yerington’s class students learned about radiation by monitoring the temperature of soil and water after being in the sun and then the shade. (Return to Table of Contents)




EAST CAMPUS
